Today more than ever the Intellectual property laws including patents, copyrights, trademarks and geographical indications are gaining significance in the State to ensure that innovation and creativity and supported with economic security by limiting imitation for some period.

The state has thriving manufacturing industry in sectors ranging from shipping, automobiles, pharmaceutical, steel to food articles and apparel. So also the film industry and advertisement sector of the country is centered in and around Mumbai. This has led to several intellectual property disputes being taken up at the tribunal as well as the High Court, interpreting the provisions and clearing ambiguities to clarify the legal position in complex facts.
